Wales Based Organisations

  • Stonewall Cymru

    Stonewall, is an organisation that stands for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning and ace (LGBTQ+) people everywhere. They offer a range of training and resources for schools and workplaces to make them more inclusive and have some training and support available for individuals and communities as well.

  • Glitter Cymru

    Glitter Cymru was set up in June 2016 as a monthly meet-up group for people who identify under the following two acronyms: BAME meaning Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic and LGBT+ meaning Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans. It is a Cardiff based organisation that offers regular zoom meetings and other themed events. You can find their linktree HERE

  • Umbrella Cymru

    You can request support via a self referral, and they offer practical advice, counselling, advocacy, advice and guidance, information and signposting. They can also help support you with a deed poll application.

    Umbrella also has a group called CREAT+VE for trans and non-binary young people (18-25). This group is designed to empower participants through arts, crafts, and mixed media activities while enhancing a sense of belonging and increasing social confidence. The group meets in the Umbrella Cymru Offices in Caerphilly fortnightly on Thursdays – 7pm – 9pm.

  • Trans Aid Cymru

    Trans Aid Cymru aims to help Transgender, Non-Binary and Intersex (TIN) people through mutual aid support. The project is run by TIN people for TIN people, making it inclusive and understanding of the community needs.

    They have events such as meet ups, meal shares, swimming, gardening and a whole host of other activities. You can find out more about their current projects HERE

    They also offer grants to help with medication costs, food, bills, transport to counselling etc and have a map with GP surgeries reflecting positive and negative experiences to help ensure you find the support and care that meets your needs.   • Unique Transgender Network

    UNIQUE Transgender Network is a voluntary group supporting Trans* (transgender) people in North Wales & West Cheshire. They offer face to face and online meetings, you can find out more information about the next meetings HERE. For more information, contact Jenny Anne jennyanne@uniquetg.org.uk

  • FFLAG

    FFLAG is a national voluntary organisation and charity dedicated to supporting families and their LGBT+ loved ones. FFLAG South Wales meet up regularly and if you want to find out more please email fflagsouthwales@gmail.com

  • Squirrel Friends

    Squirrel Friends is a UK-based, peer-led social and support group for trans and non- binary people. They aim to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where members can connect, share experiences, and build community. The group runs regular online and in-person meet-ups, offering friendship, mutual support, and a space to be yourself.
    They also organise occasional workshops, talks, and community activities, and welcome both trans and non-binary people as well as supportive friends and family members. For more information email info@squirrelfriends.org.uk or follow them on social media such as their Facebook or Instagram.

  • Impact LGBT+
    A 52 week LGBTQ+ youth group (13-21 years old) based in Cardiff. A friendly and safe environment which allows you to become friends with like-minded people, while socialising, playing sports, doing arts & crafts, taking part in workshops and sometimes trips out and residentials.

  • Viva LGBT+

    Youth groups and support across Denbighshire, Conwy, Flintshire, Anglesey and Wrexham for young people aged 11 to 25 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or questioning.

  • Tŷ Pride

    Tŷ Pride is a specialist LGBTQ+ project, staffed 24 hours a day, supporting LGBTQ+ young people community who were experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. For more information and how to refer you can find out more HERE

  • Progress Cymru

    Progress Cymru Counselling, is a charity dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ people, through providing affordable mental health services to those in need. Their inclusive approach ensures that everyone, regardless of their background or financial situation, can access high-quality counselling, through a free-of-charge or sliding scale model, including systemic family therapy and creative therapies. They also have a wellbeing hub with courses available for people to attend in their own time.

  • GoodVibes

    GoodVibes is run by YMCA Swansea is a safe and friendly place for LGBTQ+ young people and allies, from the ages of 11 – 25, to hang out and make new friends, in a safe, confidential environment, to be away from prejudice. This project runs every Tuesday 6-8pm in the YMCA in Swansea. You can find out more about this project by emailing kelly@ymcaswansea.org.uk.

    In addition to meeting in Swansea, GoodVibes also has an online safe, and inclusive digital space designed specifically for LGBTQ+ young people (ages 11–25) throughout Wales! Meeting Tuesdays, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

  • Llanelli Queer Collective

    A non-profit, non-party political LGBTQIA+ organisation giving Llanelli’s LGBTQIA+ community a safe and fully inclusive environment.

  • Fighting with Pride – The LGBT+ Military Charity

    Lived experience charity that supports the health and wellbeing of LGBT+ veterans, serving personnel and their families.

  • Fast Track Cymru

    This organisation works alongside the Welsh HIV Action plan to reach the target of zero new HIV transmissions in Wales by 2030.

  • Terence Higgins Trust Cymru

  • The Gathering

    An inclusive LGBTQ+ church for all. They meet at 7pm every Sunday at City URC, Cardiff. If you want to contact them you can email mail@thegatheringcardiff.org or find out more via their linktree.

UK Wide Organisations

  • Galop

    Galop is the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity. We work with and for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. You can contact them Monday to Friday between 10am and 8.30pm and on a Friday from 10am to 4.30pm

  • Mermaids

    Mermaids supports transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children and young people until their 20th birthday, as well as their families and professionals involved in their care.

  • Undivided Consultancy and Undivided Families

    Undivided Consultancy offers bespoke training packages surrounding LGBTQIA+ inclusion and policy guidance. Undivided Families provides support for parents/carers who identify as LGBTQIA+ as well as parents/carers of LGBTQIA+ young people. For more information email info@undivided.org.uk

  • The TIN Wardrobe

    Provides free clothing to trans, intersex and non-binary people across the UK. For more information email thetinwardrobe@gmail.com

  • G(end)er Swap

    G(end)er Swap is a UK based LGBTIQ+ clothing outreach organisation and community interest company that supports trans and gender non-conforming individuals to access clothes and community with bespoke pop-ups, LGBTQ style workshops and exhibitions that support trans individuals with style, makeup and wellness resources.

    Their website has a wide range of online resources on styling for the season, how to do your hair and makeup, guidance on tucking and safe binding. You can also join their G(end)er Swap n’ Shop Facebook Clothes Exchange Group (for UK/EU folks only)

  • Trans in the City

    The world’s largest organisation for trans and non-binary people in business. Established in 2017, they became a not-for-profit company in 2022, and are led by trans and non-binary people. Trans in the City collaborates with over 200 global corporate partners to raise awareness, share contacts and best practice, provide role models and speakers and access to consultancy and training

  • Gendered Intelligence

    Gendered Intelligence (GI) is a registered charity that works to increase understanding of gender diversity and improve the lives of trans people. GI is a trans led and trans involving grassroots organisation

    They also have Waiting List Warriors an online support for those on waiting lists for gender affirming care/

    In addition, they also have Voice workshops. The Laurels Gender Identity Clinic Speech and Language Therapists are collaborating with Gendered Intelligence and the training involves two specialists in gender affirming voice/vocal therapy who will help you understand a little more about your voice and ways to be comfortable with it.

  • LGBT+ Switchboard

    The LGBT+ Switchboard is a confidential and supportive listening service that has been running since 1974. They have supported people on a wide range of topics such as; coming out, relationship and family issues, issues at work or college, safer sex and sexual health, having sex for the first time and looking for LGBT+ venues, social or support groups.

    The LGBT+ Switchboard recommends reaching out to Shout or the Crisis Text Line if you need them outside of their open hours.

  • MindOut

    MindOut is an LGBTQ+ mental health charity run by and for LGBTQ+ people, with services including counselling, peer support, online chat, advocacy and suicide prevention. They offer an anonymous and confidential online chat service run by LGBTQ affirmative mental health trained volunteers. On Mondays from 3-5pm, they aim to provide volunteers who are People of Colour in the online chat, on Tuesdays from 2-5pm they im to have volunteers who are Trans/Non-binary and on Wednesday it is general LGBTQ support from 3-5pm.   • LGBT Foundation

    LGBT Foundation is a national charity offering a wide range of wellbeing, mental health, sexual health and support services for LGBTQ+ people. Services include a helpline, counselling, befriending, group support, and resources around mental wellbeing such as their self help hub. You can call their helpline on 0345 3 30 30 30 (weekdays, 9am–9pm; weekends, 10am–6pm) or email: info@lgbt.foundation

  • AKT (The Albert Kennedy Trust)

    AKT supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16–25 who are facing homelessness, or living in hostile or unsafe environments. They provide emergency accommodation, mental health and wellbeing support, mentoring, life skills workshops and an online support hub. You can speak to someone via their livechat on the website or email gethelp@akt.org.uk if you have questions about the referral process or about getting help from AKT. You can also complete a self referral via this online form.

  • Re-engage – Rainbow Call Companions

    Re-engage is a national charity working to combat loneliness and isolation among older people. Their Rainbow Call Companions service is a free telephone befriending programme specifically for LGBTQ+ people aged 75 and over. Older LGBTQ+ individuals can sign up to receive a regular call from a trained volunteer for a friendly chat and ongoing companionship.

    This service helps create meaningful social connections for older LGBTQ+ people who may be feeling isolated or lacking community support.   • Samaritans

    The Samaritans are a charity aimed at providing emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope or at risk of suicide throughout the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

    There are multiple ways to get in touch with the Samaritans. You can call 24/7 on 116 123, email on jo@samaritans.org (replies via email can take a few days), online chat (a new pilot service), or writing a letter

  • Victim Support

    Victim Support is there to offer support to anyone affected by crime. Not only those who experience it directly, but also their friends, family and any other people involved. They are independent from the police, and their support is free and confidential.

    It doesn’t matter when the crime took place, or whether you’ve reported it to the police. You can get help at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can call their Supportline on 08 08 16 89 111, use the Relay UK app or contact them in BSL, use their live chat or fill in an online form, however replies to the form can take up to three working days.

  • Papyrus

    Papyrus is a charity for the prevention of young suicide (under 35) in the UK. For confidential suicide prevention advice contact HOPELINEUK, they are open 9am–midnight every day and you can call them on 0800 068 4141, text them on 07860 039967, email pat@papyrus-uk.org
